Rae Chu-Colwell, Associate

Rae Chu-Colwell is an experienced graphic designer specializing in brand and company identity, environmental graphics, and marketing collateral for a wide range of clients in healthcare, bio-technology, retail, and architecture sectors. Because every client has unique communication needs and specific strategies, Rae understands that the goal of a designer is first to listen, and then draw out what it is clients are trying to convey in their products and services. Only then, driven by the client’s vision, does her talent and passion take over, translating ideas and words into visually concise and compelling messages.

Rae established Rae Chu-Colwell Design in 2007 where the studio’s recent projects have focused on developing marketing collateral, artwork, and trade show materials highlighting medical devices and scientific instruments. Prior to running her own studio, Rae worked at Chong Partners Architecture in San Francisco providing collateral design and marketing coordination with a focus on award-winning, sustainable, LEED certified projects for healthcare and institutional clients, including California Pacific Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Health, and Catholic Healthcare West. Rae also served as an event planner and designer for numerous marketing events and tradeshows.

Rae holds a Bachelor of Science in Visual Communication from San Francisco State University, where she worked as a teaching assistant for the core graphics and information design curriculum.  She has been featured multiple times at the InPulse Design Showcase, and her work helped shape the campus via an environmental signage redesign project for the school’s Fine Arts building.

As a visual communicator and problem solver for a wide range of clients, Rae continuously pursues new developments in graphic design to keep pace with rapidly changing technology and audience appetites.
